Cast and Production Insurance Medicals in Kent

Private GP medicals for actors, presenters and performers working in film, television, commercials and theatre, with reports usually completed on the same day. We can see you discreetly at our clinic in Mereworth, or come to you at home or on location. Production companies, agents and performers are all welcome to book.

What is a cast insurance medical?

Most productions take out insurance in case a key performer becomes ill or is injured and filming or a run of performances has to be delayed or cancelled. This is often called cast insurance or essential element cover. Before the insurer will cover a named performer, they usually ask for a short medical examination by a doctor, recorded on their own form.

The medical is not a test you pass or fail. It gives the insurer an accurate picture of your health so that cover can be confirmed and filming or rehearsals can go ahead as planned. Read our GP’s guide to cast insurance medicals.

Who we see

  • Actors and actresses in film, television, streaming and commercials
  • Stage performers, including theatre, touring productions, dance and musical theatre
  • Presenters, hosts and other on-screen talent
  • Directors and other key personnel named on a production’s insurance

We regularly care for people working on stage and screen, and we understand the timescales productions work to.

What’s included

  • A GP Medical Examination with Report appointment with one of our experienced private GPs
  • A review of your medical history and any current health concerns
  • A physical examination covering what your insurer asks for, typically including blood pressure, pulse, heart, chest and general health
  • Completion of the insurer’s or production’s medical form during your appointment
  • A signed report, usually provided on the same day as your appointment

If your insurer asks for extra tests, such as blood tests, let us know when you book and we can usually arrange these at the same visit. Any additional fees are always agreed with you first.

Your insurer’s form

Most insurers have their own medical form or proforma. Please send it to us before your appointment using our secure upload page, or bring a copy with you. The GP completes it with you during your consultation, so nothing is left waiting afterwards.

If there is no form, the GP can write a medical report covering your examination and general fitness to work. It’s worth checking with your production or insurance broker beforehand so we know exactly what they need.

Confidential and discreet

Confidentiality is at the heart of everything we do as doctors, and we know it matters especially to people in the public eye. Your report is only sent to the people you agree to, such as the production company, insurer or broker, and we never discuss who we see or why.

  • Quiet appointment times: where possible, we can book you in at times when few or no other patients are at the clinic.
  • Home and location visits: our GP can come to your home, hotel, theatre or set.
  • Direct contact: speak to our team directly to arrange everything, without going through a call centre.

Home, hotel and location visits

If coming to the clinic is not practical, one of our GPs can visit you. Home and location visits are charged at the standard medical fee plus travel time, which depends on distance. Please contact us with the address and your preferred dates and we will give you a quote before anything is booked.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can I be seen?

We can often offer appointments within a few days, and sooner when a production deadline is tight. Contact us as early as you can, ideally as soon as you know the insurer needs a medical.

Do I need to be registered with you already?

No. You just need to complete our short online registration before your appointment. You do not need to leave your NHS GP.

What should I bring?

Photo ID, the insurer’s medical form (if you have not uploaded it), a list of any medicines you take, and your glasses or contact lenses if you wear them.

Who sees my report?

Only the people you agree to, usually the insurer, broker or production company. We will confirm this with you during your appointment.

Can you help with other health needs during a production?

Yes. As a full private GP practice, we can help with illness, prescriptions and fit-to-perform advice during rehearsals, filming or a run. Our physiotherapists can also help with injuries, which can be a particular concern for dancers and performers in physically demanding roles. See our private GP consultations.
